Being diagnosed with cancer is one of the scariest things that can happen. Cancer was so feared that it used to be whispered and called the big ‘C’ when I was young, but back then it was also rare. It is because of this fear that I have written these notes in the hope they will produce in the reader a new outlook, optimism, positive action and hope.
When I found a lump under my left ribcage, I was just over fifty, at a time prior to the internet. The extremely scary tests I underwent as well as surrendering control of my life to others (who dictated a treatment process, including signing a form accepting I could die during the operation) left me feeling cornered and very afraid, which I did not understand, nor was I offered any help in understanding.
After a large tumour and part of my stomach was removed, I heard thankfully that the tumour was benign. In the summer before the operation, I had kept to a strict diet, taken a myriad of vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements, and importantly, chewed fennel before every meal, with only a little knowledge and a large dose of faith; only recently discovering that fennel has anti-cancer properties.
Two years later my family was shocked by the death of my daughter’s fiancée, from leukaemia. Then my mother died during an operation for bowel cancer, followed by my son’s wife being diagnosed with breast cancer and having to endure mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. During this time, she began looking into nutrition therapy and said she was dying of the process rather than the cancer. After she died we continued searching for information on nutrition and other healing from cancer.
What few people appreciate is that ‘mainstream’ medicine is relatively new, whilst treatments and remedies of nature-based practices have existed at least since recorded information on Hippocrates in the 4th century BC. Being truly ‘traditional’, many natural remedies are what are now referred to as ‘fringe medicine’, or ‘alternative treatments’ but actually it is the allopathic, modern medicine which is new.
The saying ’knowledge is power’ is particularly true in personal health issues and considering the body’s amazing healing process will help to alleviate fear. For example, when the site of a physical injury swells this is not necessarily something that’s ‘gone wrong’ but the body jumping into action; inflammation is part of the healing process. The same goes for cancer. Learning what cancer is, brings enlightenment. Learning about the automatic systems in our bodies, and realising they’re part of an incredible design, brings hope. Hearing stories of people who chose to steer their own treatment successfully, can empower all of us towards wanting to take control of our own health.
If turning to natural treatments seems scary or friends deride ideas as ‘quackery’ then go with the flow of conversation rather than try to defend yourself because it’s important to reduce stress. Be encouraged that many noble individuals have stood their ground and made their own choices, successfully. Learn about the body’s ability to remove toxins and how to strengthen its natural defences against any ‘side effects’ of conventional treatment, as well as against the harmful effects of everyday living.

But the main reason to investigate cancer is to learn there are causes for illness, and finding the cause - a deficiency or a toxin - is as vital as considering which therapy to take. And knowing what cancer actually is - the body’s natural response to toxin or deficiency - is the first step towards health, after which you will be better able to make decisions about which therapy is right for you! You don’t have to follow a prescribed path, but you can educate yourself and decide for yourself!
Dr Albert Ellis in the 50s said that ‘what people believe about a situation which they face, rather than the situation itself, is what determines how they feel and therefore how they respond'. We have been conditioned to fear cancer, yet if we learn about it and what we can change, and discover options we can choose for ourselves and that we can take control of our own health, fear will diminish.

Consider this: The American Cancer Society was set up more than 100 years ago (and other fund-raising cancer research organisations). Has their research progressed? Have cures been found in all that time?
Yet in the same period of time, many treatments and natural cures (not allowed to be called cures) have been forbidden or hidden.
But don’t let that deter you! There are many success stories to uncover and hope is out there!
Take Action:
Some of the following might be obvious already and that’s good. If it sounds tedious and too much effort, just try changing one thing at a time…
Accept that changes in diet and lifestyle can make a huge difference: fresh, organic (or spray-free) fruit and vegetables, pure water, quality sleep and exercise. Avoid smoking/alcohol/caffeine/fast foods and situations that might be stressful. Note: Often people do not feel ill until after being diagnosed with cancer - the shock itself, followed by the typical pessimistic attitude towards cancer by doctors, hospital staff (and friends showing sympathy) can be what first induces the signs of illness (when the person was feeling relatively well until discovering a ‘lump’) showing that the body reacts sympathetically to hearing bad news.
Support the body in what it is designed to do: as the immune system has most likely been compromised, rather than further undermining it, increase nutrition, add natural supplements and avoid foods not easy to digest, like meat (as well as from the risk of added toxins, hormones and antibiotics).
Avoid Toxins: Check labels for ingredients in foods, cosmetics, deodorant, toothpaste and shampoo. Research all ingredients. Use natural alternatives. Cough mixtures or headache/pain killers or other medications may have side-effects. Individual ingredients that ’may be carcinogenic’ should be given a wide berth! Avoid plastics and reduce EMF/microwave radiation. Don’t cook with a microwave oven. Reduce exposure to mobiles, laptops, electrical sockets and Smart Meters. Sleep in an EMR free environment.

Avoid Stress: It is important to understand the effects of stress, because once given a cancer diagnosis, the entire being is stressed more than before diagnosis, when some other stress is most likely to have been involved with creating a cancer-producing environment. This theory was proposed by Dr. Hamer, a German oncologist in the late 70s, who wrote, ‘… (it) is undoubtedly true that stress knocks down the immune system significantly, which could certainly translate into accelerated growth of cancer cells. Continued stress from unresolved traumatic events must inhibit your body's ability to fight cancer.’

Cut Out Sugar: Decreasing sugar consumption is crucial, although cutting out sugars from grains, starchy carbs and alcohol, etc., may not be as easy. Research fasting as there’s no doubt it works as part of a detox regime; it could change the body’s metabolism from glucose-based to fat-based. Research Otto Warburg’s work. He won the Nobel prize for discovering that cancer cells cannot survive in an alkaline and oxygen rich environment and that cancer feeds on sugar/fermentation.
In 1863, Rudolph Virchow hypothesised that the origin of cancer was at sites of chronic inflammation. It is worth considering the link between cancer and inflammation being a primary immune response, because in that case eliminating inflammatory foods and beverages (look up lists of inflammatory foods) will be a positive move, whilst boosting the immune system with anti-inflammatory fruits and vegetables, a positive environment, fresh air and gentle exercise (barefoot if possible):

How Do I Give Turmeric To My Cat?
Turmeric’s therapeutic qualities must be coupled with good quality oil and black pepper in order for them to be accessible to your pet’s body. These components work together to generate the ideal natural chemical reaction.
It releases the curcumin in turmeric and allows it to readily traverse the cells within the body.
When given alone, turmeric may pass through the digestive system far too rapidly to be effective.
We recommend making a paste and giving it to your feline friend. Follow the instructions to ensure that your cat receives the appropriate dosage.
Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup (60g) of Turmeric powder
• 1 cup (250 mL) water + additional water in case it’s needed
• A third cup (70 ml) oil made from coconut. Use raw, unrefined, cold-pressed oil.
• Alternatively, you may use olive oil.
• 2 – 3 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
• Use freshly ground black peppercorns that you can grind right before serving, else the natural chemical interaction between
the oil, turmeric, and pepper may fail.
Directions:
• Bring the water and turmeric to a boil in a saucepan, then reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer until it
forms a thick paste. This should take no more than ten minutes.
• If you’re using raw turmeric, grate it beforehand and simmer it for at least 30 minutes. You want this to form a paste, similar
to hummus, so you may need to add a bit more water to obtain the right consistency.
• If you’re replacing, add the freshly ground black pepper and organic coconut or virgin cold-pressed olive oil when the
paste is no longer hot but still warm.
• Mix everything together to ensure that the oil and pepper penetrate the paste completely.
• You may freeze the paste in ice cube trays, or put it in a glass jar and keep it in the fridge for 7 to 10 days.
We’ve noticed that cooking a little bit of liver separately and then grating this cooked liver into the mix once both the liver and paste are cool makes it very appealing to finicky cats or dogs.
If you need to add a little more water, you can use a smidgeon of the water from the cooked liver to replace any more water needed to form the paste.

Consider what you already know: the amazing automatic healing process of the body! If you cut your skin, you stem the bleeding, knowing from observation the blood will clot, form a scab and grow new skin beneath. We seldom question a wound will heal, so why not have confidence that all systems have built-in healing mechanisms? We accept that the many processes of the body exist, functioning reliably without our intentional participation, particularly the immune system, as well as systems not fully understood by even the most eminent scientists, especially how the body, mind and spirit all operate interdependently!
My life experiences confirm my mainstay of life - a conviction that nothing is accidental but by design. Our environment and all life situations, whether we usually think of them as good or bad, will work together and synchronise for good outcomes if we expect everything to have a purpose. For me, where there is design there is a designer, awareness creates reason, purpose and optimism even in ill-health.
Having felt the fear that accompanies the word ‘cancer’ and remembering the intimidation of medical staff as they coerced me to follow ‘normal’ procedure, I would encourage anyone diagnosed with cancer to become enlightened about the history of ‘cancer’, to be as objective as possible about their situation and research ways to take control of their lives, until they are convinced that hope exists and fear is reduced and removed.

Since writing this in 2015 having edited it a few times, now in 2021, experience and study has taken me even further than just transforming the idea of cancer as an enemy. Along the way, the whole world has been swallowed up by an event which has made many people question illogical and contradictory bits of health information and guidelines from governments. It is my opinion that the theory that illness is an enemy to be attacked, undermines the return to wellness.
Following earlier discoveries that cancer treatments were invasive and went against nature, I have noticed the word ‘fight’ and ‘anti’ something - like anti-cancer - which crop up even in natural resource literature. As inflammation and cancer are natural processes, our attitude and language surrounding health topics may need to change. Why would we need to be fight cancer if it’s a natural process of the body…?
Masks: Because of the need to increase oxygen to the body (as cancer cannot thrive in an oxygen-rich environment) it is advisable that one avoids mask-wearing which depletes oxygen (can lead to hypoxia) and of course covering mouth and nose interferes with the detoxing process.
We have to be brave to take the less-travelled path and not be afraid when others tell us we are wrong. They probably care and genuinely think they’re doing the right thing. But we have to learn to trust our instincts, do our own research, make personal decisions as to what feels right, and stand firm. Even once you’ve decided, you may have to avoid the well-meaning but bossy personalities just for a while, until you’re doing well at detoxing and changing lifestyle, or whatever it is you decide to do.
